Summary

'As a man thinketh in his heart, so is he。' —Proverbs, chapter 23, verse 7

First published in 1903, James Allen's literary essay became an inspirational classic。 It shows how, in his own thought-world, each man holds the key to every condition, good or bad, that enters into his life, and that, by working patiently and intelligently upon his thoughts, he may remake his life, and transform his circumstances。

Focus on changing your thoughts。This book is absolute gem。 It teaches us the importance of thought in one's life。 How good and bad thought effect every area of our lives。 The book gives good insight into our thought process and how we can change them to achieve whatever think we want。 I highly recommend every age people to go through this masterly piece of James Allen atleast once in their life。 Focus on changing your thoughts。This book is absolute gem。 It teaches us the importance of thought in one's life。 How good and bad thought effect every area of our lives。 The book gives good insight into our thought process and how we can change them to achieve whatever think we want。 I highly recommend every age people to go through this masterly piece of James Allen atleast once in their life。 。。。more

For those who are looking for a tiny spark to boost their confidence, this book would be a good choice。 A man becomes who he thinks he is and what he dreams about。 The author also speaks about serenity in the last chapter。 He says that, a person with calmness attracts success and people's hearts towards him。 Its a good and quick snack for motivation cravings。 For those who are looking for a tiny spark to boost their confidence, this book would be a good choice。 A man becomes who he thinks he is and what he dreams about。 The author also speaks about serenity in the last chapter。 He says that, a person with calmness attracts success and people's hearts towards him。 Its a good and quick snack for motivation cravings。 。。。more

“Self-control is strength; Right Thought is mastery; Calmness is power; Say unto your heart, Peace, be still。” - As a Man Thinketh by James Allen One of the apt examples of demonstrating ‘less is more’。 A book that is small, thin and with an average of 100 words per page has more depth than so many other average sized books。 It precisely explains how we are responsible for our own ups and downs irrespective of the nature of our circumstances。

I don't know why this quick read seemed so long a literary essay to finish, maybe because its one simple notion has been presented in a hundred ways。"They themselves are makers of themselves" - That's what you'd find in the foreword and that's basically the one-line summary of the entire book。 I cannot deny that this book has many marvelous quotes you cannot help but nod reading, but there's this stifling feeling I got from it that makes me pretty anxious。 It is a book trying to force you to thi I don't know why this quick read seemed so long a literary essay to finish, maybe because its one simple notion has been presented in a hundred ways。"They themselves are makers of themselves" - That's what you'd find in the foreword and that's basically the one-line summary of the entire book。 I cannot deny that this book has many marvelous quotes you cannot help but nod reading, but there's this stifling feeling I got from it that makes me pretty anxious。 It is a book trying to force you to think of "Right" thoughts to get to the "Sunny Shore", it says the calm mind is likely the ideal one and everyone should change their thoughts in a way so that they can achieve a calm mind。 When questions are made out of its decided order, it has been called "superficial judgement", while in reality, the envisioned Sunny shore isn't the likely destination most of the time。 No, this is definitely not a guide to live a human life, but the syntax of composing the perfect metre and rhyme - strict and clear in it's purpose and process, losing the very human element。 Not recommending it to anyone。 。。。more

Very thoughtful book! I was given it as a graduation gift to prepare myself for college, and I underlined so much in the book。 This is the perfect book for someone preparing to move on to a new phase in their life, or needs a thought-provoking book。

The power of thoughtsThe book helps you to understand that whatever circumstances you are in now, is the result of your thoughts, so to change your circumstances you have to change your thought process。

The only thing good about this book is that it's final message is true - one is responsible to what is happening in his life。That is true to some degree (circumstances do matter and they aren't always within our control), and all of the reasoning for this in the book is religious nonsense。 I expected something at least semi-profound, and found preaching and judgement instead。This is a very, very bad book and IMO anyone who truly wants to improve his life, will do himself a favor and not read thi The only thing good about this book is that it's final message is true - one is responsible to what is happening in his life。That is true to some degree (circumstances do matter and they aren't always within our control), and all of the reasoning for this in the book is religious nonsense。 I expected something at least semi-profound, and found preaching and judgement instead。This is a very, very bad book and IMO anyone who truly wants to improve his life, will do himself a favor and not read this book as a source of inspiration as it will lead you, most likely, to the opposite path。 。。。more

Thoughts become things, it's that simple。 Written in 1902, this book is the forefather to so many of the self help books written over the years。So, no, this isn't a retread of that material, it was the originator, baby!Overall, good book。。。super quick read。 You can get through it in an hour。 So much more succinct and to the point than the longwinded, overly wordy books of today。 Thoughts become things, it's that simple。 Written in 1902, this book is the forefather to so many of the self help books written over the years。So, no, this isn't a retread of that material, it was the originator, baby!Overall, good book。。。super quick read。 You can get through it in an hour。 So much more succinct and to the point than the longwinded, overly wordy books of today。 。。。more

Short little book espousing the virtues of controlling your thoughts to realize success, happiness, and peace。 "A man is literally what he thinks。" Basically, if you control your thoughts then you control your destiny。 I was annoyed at how "man" was considered universal, and no tangible exercises are provided for actually controlling one's thoughts, but I did find a couple of nice quotes。 Short little book espousing the virtues of controlling your thoughts to realize success, happiness, and peace。 "A man is literally what he thinks。" Basically, if you control your thoughts then you control your destiny。 I was annoyed at how "man" was considered universal, and no tangible exercises are provided for actually controlling one's thoughts, but I did find a couple of nice quotes。 。。。more

This is a very easy and understandable book, but the principle within is clear and exposed in a clear way to change the course of you life。 This is a family book, a consultation book, a book to read every month until forever。 Within is the secret I’ve been looking for all my life。 Strongly recomendable if you want something different in your life。 Este es un libro muy fácil y comprensible, pero el principio que contiene es claro y se expone de una manera clara para cambiar el curso de su vida。 E This is a very easy and understandable book, but the principle within is clear and exposed in a clear way to change the course of you life。 This is a family book, a consultation book, a book to read every month until forever。 Within is the secret I’ve been looking for all my life。 Strongly recomendable if you want something different in your life。 Este es un libro muy fácil y comprensible, pero el principio que contiene es claro y se expone de una manera clara para cambiar el curso de su vida。 Este es un libro de familia, un libro de consulta, un libro para leer todos los meses hasta siempre。 Dentro está el secreto que he estado buscando toda mi vida。 Muy recomendable si quieres algo diferente en tu vida。 。。。more

Much of what the author has to say is worth considering。 But in all that he writes, he misses a critical point: unless a person's thinking is brought into captivity to the lordship of Christ, he\she fools themselves in thinking that much of any importance will be accomplished through a change in thinking。 Without an acknowledgement of Christ's person and work (crucifixion and resurrection), following the advice of this book is nothing more than exalting one's personal arrogance。 But with Christ Much of what the author has to say is worth considering。 But in all that he writes, he misses a critical point: unless a person's thinking is brought into captivity to the lordship of Christ, he\she fools themselves in thinking that much of any importance will be accomplished through a change in thinking。 Without an acknowledgement of Christ's person and work (crucifixion and resurrection), following the advice of this book is nothing more than exalting one's personal arrogance。 But with Christ as the center of one's thought life, this book could prove to be useful。 (Hence the three star rating。) 。。。more

Pure gold。 Pure wisdom。 Even though this was written in 1903 and is clearly directed to men, it’s wisdom applies to all。 While reading I ignored the references to “he” and “man” and looked at the golden nuggets of wisdom throughout。It’s a quick, simple read but for anyone looking to elevate their mindset it’s a must read。

At first, I found the writing a bit hard to read but as the chapters passed, I was more and more touched and moved。 I cried a few times because it resonated with me and tells a simple truth: everything depends on your thoughts/mind。 It is simple but not always easy to practice。The last 2 chapters were the most profound to me and I am thankful for picking up this book。

I have things to do that I prioritize over reading this。 And when I do read it, I want to analyze it as much as possible, as this is a philosophical novel and anything that I carelessly let into my worldview will stick there like butter to a pan and affect me for life until I review my thoughts again。 Right now is not a good time to choose to that。 I'll return to it in two weeks or so。 I have things to do that I prioritize over reading this。 And when I do read it, I want to analyze it as much as possible, as this is a philosophical novel and anything that I carelessly let into my worldview will stick there like butter to a pan and affect me for life until I review my thoughts again。 Right now is not a good time to choose to that。 I'll return to it in two weeks or so。 。。。more
